parkway to victory - View this location on map

designed to link jamestown, williamsburg and yorktown, the site of washington's definitive victory over cornwallis in 1781, the 23-mile colonial national historical parkway provides views of rivers and tidal estuaries along the way. yorktown has historic buildings, shops and houses perched above the york river. if it's not too busy, eat at carrot tree kitchens (757-246-9559) in yorktown's oldest house (1720), or simply order a box lunch and enjoy the peaceful town center. try the hot crab rarebit ($7.50) or miss evelyn's luncheon special: fruit salad, ham biscuits and brunswick stew ($8.95) made with chicken and country ham instead of the traditional squirrel. the battlefield, (757-898-2410; $5 a person 17 and older, free under 17), is also part of the colonial national historical park.
