the columbia river maritime museum ( 503-325-2323) showcases a nearly overwhelming array of exhibits on the city's maritime heritage. practically every manner of craft that ever plied local waters - schooners, oyster sloops, lightships, gillnetters, lifeboats - is put into historical context. other collections tell stories of the boom and decline of astoria's salmon-canning industry, as well as of the countless shipwrecks that earned the treacherous sandbars where the columbia river meets the ocean the nickname graveyard of the pacific. admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children under 17, and includes a tour of the lightship columbia.''
