West Virginia Independence Hall - View this location on map

Originally constructed as a U.S. Custom House in the spring and summer of 1861, the building was the home of pro-Union State conventions of Virginia. It served as the capitol of the Restored (Unionist) Government of Virginia between 1861 and 1863. The first constitutional convention for the new State of West Virginia also took place here, earning it the name of Independence Hall.
