
Washington Navy Yard - View this location on map ![]() Built on an Anacostia River site purchased in 1799, the Washington Navy Yard was the U.S. Navy's first yard and first home port center for early 19th-century naval operations during a critical period of expanding nationalism. Torpedoes, submarines and ordnance have been tested here over the years.
