
Thomas Beall House (Newton D. Baker House) - View this location on map ![]() Thomas Beall constructed this large Federal house, typical of Northeastern seacoast mansions, as an investment in about 1794; it was purchased by Major George Peter in 1811. From 1916 to 1920, it was the residence of Newton Diehl Baker (1871-1937), one of the most distinguished Secretaries of War.
