The L.B.J. Ranch - View this location on map ![]() 'Grab a bag of new-crop pecans at Segners Pecans ( 830-997-7378; open October through March) to munch as you take the scenic 30-mile drive to Johnson City and the headquarters of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park (830-868-7128, www.nps.gov/lyjo). The park includes President Johnson's sprawling ranch near Stonewall, about halfway between Johnson City and Fredericksburg. After viewing films at the visitor center about him and his wife, Lady Bird (she still lives at the ranch some of the time), head toward Stonewall to board a bus for a 90-minute tour of the 2,800-acre ranch ($6). Highlights include the Texas White House, where Johnson met with heads of state; the shotgun house where he was born; and the cemetery where he is buried. President Johnson called his Hill Country retreat a 'special corner of God's real estate.' Also near Stonewall at the L.B.J. State Park is a living-history farm, where costumed staff members demonstrate the day-to-day activities of German immigrants in the early 1930's.''
