Peter Luger Steak House - View this location on map ![]() Peter Luger serves no lobsters, takes no major credit cards and lacks a great wine list. Service, though professional and often humorous, can sometimes be brusque. With its bare wooden tables, the place looks like a beer hall that has not changed since it opened in 1887. So why is it packed night and day, seven days a week? Simple: Peter Luger has the best steak in New York City. The family that runs the restaurant buys fresh shortloins and dry-ages them on the premises. An occasional diner will choose the thick and powerfully delicious lamb chops, or the fine salmon. French fries are terrific, hot and crisp with a powerful potato flavor. The restaurant does well by desserts, serving a fine, rich cheesecake and a fluffy chocolate mousse cake. A little whipped cream? Why not? What's a little more cholesterol at this point? New York Times review 178 Broadway, New York, New York Restaurant |
