Octagon House - View this location on map

Constructed 1799-1800, this octagonal Federal-style townhouse, built by the architect who designed the U.S. Capitol, was occupied temporarily in 1814-15 by President Madison after the burning of the White House. The Treaty of Ghent, ending the War of 1812, was signed here.
