Slightly more casual than Nobu, Next Door Nobu takes no reservations and does not serve lunch. To dine here, come early: later arrivals may wait up to 90 minutes for a table. But the food is as accomplished (and as expensive) as Nobu's. And while the menu features many of the same dishes, it strives for its own identity, with an emphasis on raw shellfish, whole fish served for an entire table, noodles, and texture. Black cod with miso makes a fine dish. Noodles range from the portly white udon to the more austere soba with their subtle chewiness. The few meat dishes on the menu are memorable.
