Marsh, Othniel C., House - View this location on map

From 1878 until his death, this was the residence of Othniel Charles Marsh (1831-1899), America's first professor of Paleontology, whose work gave support to Darwin's theory of evolution. Marsh led the first Yale scientific expedition to the West in 1870; his insistence on extreme care and thoroughness resulted the collection of remarkably complete specimens. Marsh also induced his wealthy uncle, George Peabody, to establish the Peobody Museum at Yale.
