MH De Young Museum - View this location on map

San Francisco's premier art museum re-opened in 2005 after the old museum was damaged in the 1989 earthquake. Many people complained about the design from Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre deMeuron - one even called it a Howard Johnson's of the future. Now that the largest copper-clad buildingin the world with the twisted tower is built, the public almost unanimously loves it. Admission is $10 and seeing the interior of the building alone is worth the price of admission. Add the extensive collections of American, Oceanic and Pre-Columbian art and the stunning view from the tower, and this is worth the time. Open 9:30-5:15 Tues-Sunday, except for Friday when it closes at 8:45.
