Lenox Lounge - View this location on map

Once a zoot-suited gangster haunt, this Harlem club has been retrofitted to replicate its 1930s art-deco steez and old-timey swagger. The back room, appropriately called the Zebra Room, is decked out with zig-zagging black and white tiles, leather banquettes, and a baby grand piano, hosting nightly jazz for a usual $10 cover -- decent enough, considering the quality and reputation of their higher profile acts. The venue is remembered for showcasing the likes of Miles Davis and Billie Holiday for an audience that included Langston Hughes and Malcolm X. Its current roster sports many of New York's best jazz combos, and its c lientele is decidedly non-French. (212) 427-0253
