Iolani Palace - View this location on map ![]() Termed 'the only true and royal palace under the American flag,' this was the official residence of the last two rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii, King Kalakaua and Queen Liliuokalani, and as such is perhaps the most important surviving symbol of the days of Hawaiian independence. Exotic in architecture, it was designed and constructed 1879-82. In 1898, the King Street steps of the Palace were the scene of the formal transference of the sovereignty of the Hawaiian Islands to the United States. 365 S.King St., Honolulu, Hawaii Historical |
