Harding, Chester, House - View this location on map

Harding was one of America's notable portrait painters in the four decades before his death in 1866. Gilbert Stuart, himself an artist of no mean repute, complained of the 'Harding fever' that temporatily eclipsed his own popularity. Harding occupied this four-story brick residence in 1826-30.
