Grouseland (William Henry Harrison House) - View this location on map

From 1804 to 1812, this was the home of William Henry Harrison (1773-1841), during which time he was Territorial Governor of Indiana and the foremost defender of American expansion into the region. At Grouseland were held a number of highly important conferences with leaders of the Indian Nations of the Old Northwest, including Tecumseh (1768-1813), leader of the Shawnee. In 1840, Harrison was elected the 9th President of the United States; he died shortly after assuming office.
