'Friendship Hill' was the home of Albert Gallatin from 1788-1832, the years of his extensive government service, first as U.S. Representative, then as Secretary of Treasury, and subsequently as a member of the 1814 peace commission with the British and Minister to France. Post-Gallatin buildings are important to the historic continuum at the site and represent essential aspect of the rural character and function of the property.
