First World Series Site - View this location on map On October 1, 1903, The Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates played the first World Series game on this site at the Huntington Avenue Grounds. Pittsburgh won, 7-3 before more than 16,000 fans, but Boston eventually won the series, 5 games to 3, with the final victory coming at the Grounds on October 13. The success of this series inaugurated more than a century of championship baseball competition between the American and National Leagues.
