Ballantine, John, House - View this location on map ![]() One of the very few completely documented 19th-century 'palaces,' this building (1884) vividly evokes a picture of Victorian life of the wealthy. Built for a member of the Ballantine family, whose brewery in Newark was highly successful, all the drawings and specifications by New York architect George Edward Harney survive, providing a remarkably detailed record of design and construction during the Victorian era. The house is now incorporated into the Newark Museum of Art. 43 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey Historical |
