Arrowhead (Herman Melville House) - View this location on map This late-18th-century farmhouse was the home of Herman Melville from 1850 to 1863. While living here, Melville wrote 'Pierre' (1852), 'Israel Potter' (1855), and 'The Confidence Man' (1857) and - most important - completed his masterpiece, 'Moby Dick (1851). Melville named his home Arrowhead after finding numerous Indian relics on the property.
