Archbishop's Mansion - View this location on map

So this isn't technically a midpriced offering (double rooms starting over $200), but with its history as the actual former mansion of the Archbishop of San Francisco and a short stone's throw across Alamo Square to the painted ladies, it's worth considering. All the rooms have unique names (though not every one is amazingly exotic), and as the hotel is operated as a bed-and-breakfast, it sports attentive service and a full spread in the morning. Oh, and it's supposedly haunted, which adds to the mystique of its three stories of classic French chateu-ness. (415) 563-7872 www.gridskipper.com
